An operating system is a program that acts as a medium between the computer’s hardware and the consumer. The primary goal of the operating system is to make the computer system convenient to use and its secondary goal is to run the computer hardware smoothly.
An operating system is a set of programs designed to manage the resources of a computer and includes starting the computer, managing programs, managing memory, and coordinating tasks between input and output devices.
Types of Operating Systems
Single user Operating
A single user operating system is an operating system that allows only one consumer to work at the same time. MS DOS is the most popular single user operating system.
Multi-User Operating System
A large computer can be used more efficiently if many users work on it at the same time. This is possible only in Time Sharing Mode under Local Area Network. With these multi-users, the operating system distributes a certain time to each user and also works hard to ensure that the results going to the output devices do not get mixed up. Unix, Windows 98 etc. are some multi-user operating systems.
